Great salsa-charanga release led by top percussionist Gerardo Rosales from the Netherlands. Opening with the infectious get-up-and-dance "Mambo," (composed by Orestes and Israel "Cachao" López) Salsa Antigua is a beautiful mix of classic covers like "Bilongo," "Isla Del Encando," "Bommaye," "Acuyuyé," and "Guaguancó Pa' Las Tumbadores" — all interpreted with sabor and verve. Per the liners, Charanga La Crisis is a continuing tribute to the great charangueros: Aragón, Arcaño, Melodias Del 40, Orquesta America, La Duboney, Broadway, Fajardo, Pacheco, Pupi Legarretta and many others, with their uptempo style of good old-fashioned salsa.
Highly Recommended. (BP, 2005-06-19)
